La Calle Las Damas was the first street in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and America.

During colonial times, this street was called Calle de la Fortaleza, because it was the Fortaleza Ozama.

According to historians, especially, Luis Alernar, note that during the second coming of Admiral and Viceroy Diego Colón and the daughter of King Ferdinand of Aragon, Maria de Toledo, as well as important members of society and hierarchy of Spain and major ladies of the time, took the place of residence as the Calle de la Fortaleza.
