Chavon River (La Romana)


Chavon River is a river flowing quite born inside the Dominican Republic and empties into the Caribbean Sea on the outskirts of the La Romana city (about 10 minutes east of it, in an area called "the dam").


Its bed is surrounded by a spectacular canyon covered by a lush tropical vegetation.


In recent years it has become a tourist attraction, as this last stretch is navigable and can be a river cruise on board a vessel similar to that used to sail down the Mississippi.

Furthermore, in its mouth lies the luxurious Casa de Campo Marina. But undoubtedly is best known by the charming town of Altos de Chavon, located at the top of the cliff, although some small buildings in Lower Chavon.

This river was the setting in the celebrated Hollywood films "Apocalypse Now" and "Rambo".

Chavon River is one of the most beautiful riverbeds in the Dominican Republic. In its mouth the river runs conceded in an imposing cliff completely covered with tropical vegetation.


The history of this river contains very interesting passages, from the origin of its name, possible corruption of the Taino name "Bomana" known to its use by hackers to hide treasures, it was used since colonial times to transport the precious wood that were cut in the forests of the basin.

Globalia Group Opened Touristic Projects at Punta Cana and Boca Chica

Globalia Group and Lifestyle Hotel Company opened two resorts in the areas of Punta Cana and Boca Chica.

The investment was U.S. $ 80 million according to the promoters for two inaugural events in the Presidential Suites Hamaca in Boca Chica, and the Presidential Suites in Punta Cana.

Globalia Group president, Juan Jose Hidalgo, said the figure is distributed at U.S. $ 50 million in the Punta Cana project, with buildings built on a conventional pad and concrete walls.

BTC 2010 Looks for Dominican Tourism Investors

The president of the Caribbean Tourism Exchange, Luis Felipe Aquino, announced the conclusion of the fourteenth edition of the BTC 2010, from 17 to 19 June in the Dominican Fiesta Hotel.

Aquino said the event is an opportunity to provide utilities, large commercial benefits in the short and long term.

The BTC is the meeting point between supply and demand for tourism, attended by hotel chains, airlines, hotels, travel agencies, associations, real estate projects, financial sector, cruise companies, wholesalers and travel agencies, tour operators and services institutions.

Aquino said the event will include specialized areas, which will enable industry professionals to establish business contacts and business, public relations and imaging.

BTC will present the area of Trade Show, with exhibitors offering their products in a form of direct connection with the intermediary service.

"In the Business Round interact Tour Operators and travel agents, with hotels and other vendors," said Aquino.

Casas Reales Museum (Museo de las Casas Reales)


The Museo de las Casas Reales is one of Cultural Monuments of Dominican history as it was one of the buildings made by the Spanish during the colonial era. This is located in the Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

This Museum was called Royal Palaces during the colonial era, it hosted two palaces, which date from the sixteenth century.

This palace was built on the orders of the Spanish Crown, under the reign of Ferdinand II of Aragon, on October 5, 1511, which was built to house the main government offices at the time.

This building was called the Royal Houses, since it was the Royal Court, which was the first court in the New World, was also used as residence of the Governors and Captains-General of the era, it is second named as Captain General.

This building served as home to many important people, as they were: Nicolas de Ovando, Bartolomé Colón, Louis Ferrand, among others.

In the halls of the Royal Court were held important meetings or parties composed of the leading figures of the colonial society of the time and the royal officials and judges of appeal.

The Royal Court formally exercised jurisdiction over all the neighboring islands, including the Spanish and Mainland of the Ocean Sea, as it was known at the time, reached its greatest importance in the years 1526 and 1540.

For many years its original architectural structure has undergone many changes throughout history. In 1807 French Gen. Louis Ferrand gave a French style of the building.

Over the last year of President Carlos Felipe Morales Languasco, certain amendments were made to use the building as the Government Palace and Government House.


During the reign of dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Further amendments were made in plaster to be placed there some government offices.

This museum has historical relevance as it has a colonial architecture. On October 18, 1973, during the government of President Dr. Joaquín Balaguer, was established as a museum, but it was not until May 31, 1976, which is officially recognized by the laws of the country like the Dominican National Museum, which was registered under Act 580. The opening act was the King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

This museum was created to collect and to highlight the history, life and customs of the inhabitants of the Spanish during the colonial era.

Today is one of the most watched and popular with tourists from Santo Domingo, as it is located in the Colonial Zone.

The museum has nine rooms and is composed of two buildings joined together, the first was dedicated to the Palace of the Governors and the other was the Royal Court and Accounts.

This museum is considered the most complete, as there is throughout the Americas a place that has a cultural collection of this kind, as was also the first general administration of the Americas, and is the most comprehensive museums in the Dominican Republic, as it shows from start to finish Dominican history.

Fortaleza Ozama (Ozama Fortress)



Ozama Fortress is one of the Historical Cultural Monuments of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is also one of the monuments built by the Spanish during the colonial era or the conquest and colonization.


Today is regarded as a World Heritage Site, along with other monuments in the Colonial Zone.


Ozama Fortress is another historical monuments that are part of the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. According to historians and architects, the construction of this monument dates from the years 1502-1508, which was initiated by Governor Nicolas de Ovando.

Its name comes from its location near the Ozama River, also this fortress is the oldest of the buildings made in America and on the island.

The main objective of this construction was to protect the city from the various attacks of English, French and Portuguese
pirates and conquerors.

Ozama Fortress was called in colonial times as the Tower of Homage, which was named to pay tribute to all Spanish conquerors in America, but later was also known as Watcher's Tower or the surveillance, as in the could be seen above the entrance to the Ozama River and the Caribbean coast.

From the top of the Ozama Fortress has been throughout history flags of Spain, France, England, Haiti and the United States, and now the Dominican flag.

The construction of this fort is crafted as a stone castle and still retains its original medieval architecture. Inside the fortress there are tunnels and dungeons where prisoners were locked, where Christopher Columbus himself one of the most important in the history of America that he was confined there.

Palacio de Bellas Artes (Santo Domingo)

The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) was inaugurated on May 15, 1956. This impressive building surrounded by gardens, is considered the ultimate expression of architectural resources of its time.

It occupies an area of 13,000 m2 and has an auditorium with a capacity of 614 people, which has served as a center for submission to the Teatro de Bellas Artes, which is the official professional theater Dominican composed of professional actors and actresses.

Neoclassical style with imposing columns, has four fronts, one for each of the streets that frame (north, Aristides Fiallo Cabral Street on the south-Independence Avenue entrance to the auditorium, "the east, Mahatma Gandhi Street and West Ave Maximo Gomez).

Santo Domingo Shows 7 Cultural Treasures

Columbus´ Altazar, the Primate Cathedral, The Ozama Fortress, the Royal Houses Museum, the Botanic Garden, el Malecón, and the Palace of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo have been elected, in that order, the seven treasures of Santo Domingo Cultural Capital of America, 2010.

The International Bureau of Cultural Capitals today shared the results of the popular vote, which, after these seven elements of Dominican heritage include Chinatown (Barrio Chino), Las Damas Street, the National Palace and the San Nicolás de Bari Hospital.

Also listed on the National Pantheon, the Parque de los Tres Ojos, the Altar of the Fatherland, the Hostal Nicolas de Ovando, the ruins of the Monastery of San Francisco, the Faro a Colón and Sewer Colonial, among others.

The objectives of this campaign are to promote and disseminate the material cultural heritage of Santo Domingo in a didactic, educational, recreational and encourage visits to the sites selected and elected.

It also aims to establish new tourist routes that allow visitors to learn the rich heritage of Santo Domingo, while citizen participation is promoted.

The American Capital of Culture, established in 1998, aims to promote inter-American integration from the cultural field, contribute to a better understanding between the peoples of the Americas and to highlight the common cultural heritage, the bureau said in a note.

Santo Domingo, which has around 600 cultural activities scheduled for the year, intended for export to the world its rich and active cultural life during the period of the capital, according to the country's Culture Ministry.

National Pantheon (Panteón Nacional)

The National Pantheon is located on Las Damas Street near the corner of Las Mercedes Street in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo and is open to the public during business hours Tuesday to Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm and Monday from 2 pm till 6.

Colina al Mar Samaná Will be Ready for 2011

Hermanas Mirabal Museum



The Mirabal Sisters Museum is located in the municipality of Salcedo in mediations and Tenares Conuco. The fascinating museum is housed in the same house that belonged to the family of the Dominican heroines.

In the museum are the belongings of the sisters as: books, cooking equipment, clothing, furniture, pictures, and the impressive and long braid of hair out of Maria Teresa, which was cut and taken from his corpse pain and respect for her sister Dede.

Mirabal Sisters Foundation is the figures in the creation of the museum, which was created in order to keep alive the history of the Dominican people, was founded on December 8, 1994, its head in the actualizadad is Mrs. Dede Mirabal. The Mirabal sisters were part of the main movements against the regime, were victims of multiple assaults on her person and her family were imprisoned and persecuted by the regime hard. His life ends with a murder warrant by the dictatorship.

Macao Beach (Punta Cana)


Macao Beach is located in the north of Punta Cana, belonging to the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic.
