Shark Byte Boat Wins Big Five Fishing Open


The Shark Byte  boat was the winner of Big Five Fishing Open, held from 25 to 29 June at the Marina Cap Cana, to get 1,050 points for the largest number of fish caught and released. The second place went to the boat Reel Passion, upon reaching 950 points, and third place went on the boat Sea Wish, with 650 points. 

Fishermen who were winners were Kyle Francis, Shark Byte of the boat, with the first; Brayan Ingram of Reel Passion, second, and Peter Cherasia also Shark Byte, won third place. Rick Barrett, Shark Byte of the boat was the captain who scored the highest number of catches and released into the Big Five Fishing Open.

The event was held as part of the fishing season Marina Cap Cana which began in May and took place in la Plaza del Pescador.

Dominican President inaugurates agro-tourism resort In Ocoa Bay


Dominican and U.S. investors began the development of the first agro-tourism resort to be built in the country, which is also the first resort hotel and real estate in Tourist Destination Number 8 on the coast of the beautiful bay in the South Ocoa .

The start and formal launch of the project was conducted with a ceremony attended by President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, accompanied by several ministers and heads of departments related to this initiative, local authorities and tourism business personalities.

The initial investment is $70 million and the construction phase will create 600 jobs, upon completion of the investment project is $167 million dollars and 1500 jobs. 

Both investment and job creation, for its important agricultural component-is higher than in traditional tourism projects.

The area initially committed to this development is 1.4 million square meters, and the first phase covers 140,000 meters square this complex agro tourism and real estate whose main attribute distinguishing a vineyard capable of producing high quality wines and grapes table.

La Romana-Bayahibe receive Blue Flag certification International for 2012-2013




La Laguna Dominicus Beach received the Blue Flag international certification for the period 2012 - 2013, awarded by the International Jury of the Blue Flag program then successfully completing the evaluation process.

Nebrija University Professor highlights importance of multi-destination

Ministry of Tourism will rescue Puerto Plata and will develop Barahona

"This plan seeks sustainable tourism development, and urge through regulation and policy formulation and strategic actions to encourage investment in tourism, and promote management ensure community participation,"said Maribel Villalona Nunez who participated in the Dominican Annual Tourism Forum (Fodatur 2012), organized by the Dominican Tourism Competitiveness Consortium (CDCT), sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Sustainable Tourism Empowerment Programme.
 
According to the expert, representing the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism at the event, working in the education of human resources, order the territory, having adequate infrastructure, conserving nature, protecting the attractions, guarantee security, stability investment and an effective marketing plan.

Villalona Nunez says the POTT seeks Barahona positioning as differentiated tourism product of the region, strengthening support infrastructure to tourism, local human resources qualification and promoting SME oriented tourist economy.
 
In addition, the Dominican tourism authorities make efforts to strengthen regulatory instruments relating to tourism and the regulatory framework to ensure the proper management of natural resources and sustainable architectural form.
